Not Salterini

Rid-Jid is not Salterini.
Rid-Jid is not in any way affiliated, created or marketed by Salterini. It is a patented product designed, manufactured and marketed by the J.R. Clark Company of Spring Hill, Minnesota. The J.R. Clark Company of Minneapolis, Minnesota, was a prominent 20th-century manufacturer known for its "Rid-Jid" brand of metal ironing boards, ladders, and household products.

The Company, held patents for foldable, diagonally crossed leg structures in ironing tables that achieved significant commercial success by the 1950s. Introduction of an expanded steel mesh ironing board top in 1938 led to a similar uses of the material in their patio furniture.  Rid-Jid and Salterini Radar chairs both have sweeping curves and expanded steel mesh chair bottoms and backs, but the similarities end there. Rid-Jid were constructed with steel tube frames while Rid-Jid were wrought iron.  Rid-Jid was aimed at the then burgeoning suburban market while Salterini was sold at a much higher price point. Perhaps most significantly, Rid-Jid chairs and tables fold for storage while Salterini does not.

unfortunately confusion arises because many sellers mistakenly attribute Rid-Jid to Salterini. It's understandable that a dealer or less than ethical seller would want a halo effect by claiming Salterini provenance to command a higher price however it’s simply not true. Even sites like 1st Dibs and Chairish, which claim to “curate’ their merchandise allow this misrepresentation to go unchecked. The most common offenders are found on eBay and Etsy where sellers casual research leads them to an erroneous deception.

 Rid-Jid furniture should be appreciated in its own right for its design and contribution to mid-century living.
